Stonecroft Ministries welcomes former Vietnam teacher at May meeting

It was a glimpse into a very different way of life.

‘Walk through the streets of Vietnam’ was a well-received topic at the Stonecroft morning tea last Friday. Carine van Vuuren, who spent two years as tertiary teacher in Vietnam, says ‘braaivleis’ and vegetables are the primary food for the people of Vietnam. “They have a two percent unemployment rate and the country trades with cash only, not allowing credit, not even to purchase a car or property,” explained Ms Vuuren.

She pointed out that a high percentage of people live on boats on the rivers as they cannot afford property. “Christian meetings are not allowed for the Vietnamese people and tertiary education is only for the  children of the wealthy.”

Ester Izidro entertained the audience with two lovely songs and Annetjie Strauss related her life story.

The next Stonecroft meeting will take place at Mbango Valley on Friday, June 22 at 9am for 9.30am. The challenges of being deaf and mute will be discussed by Kotie Swart, the main speaker. Bookings can be made with Hermien at 082 8253001 or Betsie at 039 317 1744.
