Recently in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court:
• A 22-year-old man was found with dagga at Pennington on August 14. He was cautioned and discharged.
• A 29-year-old unemployed man, found in the possession of two grams of dagga, was arrested in Roseneath, Umkomaas. He was cautioned and discharged.

• A 45-year-old man spent a night in police custody after he was found in the possession of two grams of dagga in Park Rynie on August 14. He was cautioned and discharged.
• Another man was arrested on August 14, this time in the Rocky Bay area, for the possession of two grams of dagga. He was cautioned and discharged.
In all cases the dagga was forfeited.

Magistrate Elsophie Botha said the court received cases such as these on a daily basis. “The prolonged use of dagga can cause people to lose their minds and eventually end up in a mental institution,” she said.
She added that anyone who uses drugs should keep the interests of their children or loved ones in mind before doing so. “The use of dagga in this town is prevalent and needs to be stopped before progressing onto harder drugs.”
• A young man was arrested after being charged with theft from Checkers, Scottburgh. He was released on warning until his next court appearance.
