Motorists have to constantly dodge these obstacles, making navigation of the roads very difficult and dangerous.
The municipality made a concerted effort to patch and repair some potholes prior to the holiday season, but many gaping holes remain.

With schools back this week, the problem becomes even more pressing, particularly in Albersville and Pelican Roads.
Road users say they are fed up, and have accused municipal officials of turning a blind eye.

One resident said that while Ray Nkonyeni Municipality had fixed the electricity problem in Swallow Drive, no effort has been made to restore the area to its original condition.
“Paving, driveways and the car park at Jai Hind Primary have been dug up to allow for a new power cable to be laid from Pelican Road to Swallow Drive. These untarred trenches now pose a serious threat to motorists, pedestrians and pupils. Every morning and afternoon this area is a nightmare,” she said.

Another resident, Ayub Moosa, called on the authorities to act soon and get the area fixed up.
“We are playing with children’s lives. We know all too well how congested school areas have become. These potholes and untarred trenches will definitively cause more problems,” he said.
