Aubrey turns 80
Aubrey and Penny Hood have lived in Mbabala Lodge in Munster for many years. Aubrey celebrated his 80th birthday last Saturday (9th) and was thrilled when their three children, spouses and seven grandsons made the effort to travel to the South Coast to celebrate this milestone birthday.
Knowledgeable Jacques
Leisure Bay Conservancy arranged an informal gathering on the grassy bank of the Mkobi lagoon in Marina Beach last Friday evening. Long-term local resident Jacques Sellschop was asked to share his extensive knowledge of the lagoon and the animals inhabiting it.

He is a dedicated conservationist and long-time wildlife photographer. His talk was greatly appreciated by the 30-odd picnickers who also enjoyed meeting other like-minded people who revelled in the beautiful surroundings with numerous water birds.
Spectacular show
Sadly, the expected swallows never arrived to roost in the reed beds – one theory is that for a number of years the thousands of birds that normally use the reeds every year have been chased away by excessive fireworks over New Year. No swallows, but some of the visitors decided to venture a little further north to check on the fireflies that breed in a particular grassy field in Southbroom. They were not disappointed. Masses of the blinking little insects put on a spectacular twinkling show. Nature is a constant source of entertainment if we just take the time to look.
Diarise the AGM
Munster Sports Club will be holding its 2019 AGM at the Munster Bowling Club next Monday (18th) at 5.30 for 6pm. All members are welcome. Light snacks will be provided.
Ample parking
Dr Solly Hoosen, who lives in Port Edward with his wife Sumaya and his four children, has moved his surgery into town opposite Strawberry Lane. He believes this will be a lot more convenient for patients – with ample parking.

Chaos reigns
Your scribe is tempted to think there is some inexplicable ‘sorcery’ going on with the weather at the moment. The heat and humidity has been excessive; it rains but remains stifling hot and then the sun comes out for an hour and not long after, the rain returns. Last Sunday night, 50mm was recorded in some areas of Port Edward and it continues daily. On top of the freaky weather turning plans and lives upside down, Eskom’s loadshedding is another nightmare! Schedules are distributed, but not adhered to – and the subsequent chaos is frustrating. Recently after loadshedding, traffic lights in Port Edward showed red in all directions and vehicles were at a standstill until drivers realised that someone had to go! What a mess!
