Buy a sticker for Talk Sign Day

Proceeds go towards education and job placement for those who are deaf.

Imagine how lonely it must be when one doesn’t understand what the people around you are saying and, no-one understands what you are trying to say.

This is how deaf people feel around those who don’t understand sign language.

Talk Sign, an initiative of the KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society, is now in its sixth year. The aim of the campaign is to ensure that people (schoolchildren in particular) become aware of sign language. In addition to raising awareness on this communication medium for deaf people, via this campaign, the society is highlighting the plight of deaf people in South Africa and raising money for their cause.

Schools, businesses, corporates and members of the public are encouraged to buy Talk Sign stickers at R10 each from St Martin de Porres school and wear them on Talk Sign Day, Friday, March 8.

Proceeds go towards education and job placement for those who are deaf.

St Martin de Porres school also encourages the South Coast community to purchase Talk Sign books at R200 each. Sign language lessons are also offered at the school. Anyone interested in sign language can contact the school at 039 6825725.
