Ramsgate Lions (and their helpers) make a clean sweep of our beaches

The abundance of enthusiasm shown by volunteers was clear throughout the day!

An overcast, yet warm morning greeted volunteers who joined the Ramsgate Lions in their beach clean up from Margate to Ramsgate beach last Saturday. Twenty bags of litter were collected and disposed of.

Ramsgate Lion’s secretary Jennifer Henry said the purpose of this gathering was simple. “To remove coastal litter from our beaches. Beach clean ups can reduce litter, protect our ocean and raise awareness about litter and plastic pollution,” explained Jennifer.

She stated that our trash not only affects the ocean but the health of the whole planet we call home. “The ocean covers two-thirds of our planet and nurtures 97 percent of all life on earth. By polluting it with rubbish we are doing it great harm. Thousands of seals, whales, dolphins, sharks and birds die from entanglement in fishing lines and other debris.”

Jennifer said volunteers showed an abundance of support throughout the day. “The Ramsgate Lions Club is incredibly grateful for the support we received from the community who volunteered their time for this important cause.”
