Tweni Talk: Tweni cameras will identify vandals

The two older children decided to add some graffiti to the deck which had just been repainted.

THE Tweni Conservancy team put a lot of effort into refurbishing, cleaning up and repainting the whale deck last Saturday. There was an unfortunate incident caught on camera an hour later, though. Two families stopped to admire the view and catch up in general, leaving the children to their own devices. After a while of playing around, the two older children decided to add some graffiti to the deck, which had just been repainted.

The parents did not notice the misdeed. Alex Skene says that while not much extra damage was done, getting rid of all the graffiti will entail sanding half the deck away. All that members ask is for parents to keep an eye on their children and remember that cameras will capture these acts of vandalism.

Very sad news

Condolences go to the family of Geoff and Maureen Wallace. Daughter Dianne said it has been tough as Maureen died on February 6 and Geoff died on March 29. The couple had lived in Tweni for 45 years and will be sorely missed.

The Tweni community was saddened by the news that former residents Geoff and Maureen Wallace both died recently.

Inaugural gathering

The first ‘Tweni Friendship’ get-together bring and share was held last Saturday (30th). Two hours of good food and laughs, or as Cathy de Boer said ‘an afternoon of diversity and fun’. If anyone in Tweni wants to join the WhatsApp group, please contact your scribe.

Grateful thanks

Last Saturday’s jumble sale held at JTV Centre in Tweni was a roaring success. On behalf of Sandile Jwacu, a very big thank you goes to Marcia Mc Garry and her team from Port Shepstone Lions for the generous donation of used clothing. The clothing will be sorted and distributed to the needy in rural Ndola, Zambia, and any other donations will be gratefully accepted.

Newest nonagenarian

Anita Hulley’s father Willie Raats turned 90 last Thursday (21st) and the family travelled to his home to celebrate. Residents of Ibis Court will remember Willie, who was the caretaker for many years.

Willie Raats, former caretaker of Ibis Court in Tweni, recently turned 90.

A God-fearing man who still walks daily, weather permitting, down to the beach, where he enjoys a pint and a chat, just like he used to do with his Schooner’s cronies every day. Willie’s only complaint is that he has lost his eyesight slightly and can’t read his Bible anymore, otherwise he is quite healthy and still feels young.

Happy days

Congratulations to likeable locals Sue and Dudley Price, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday, April 5. This week’s birthday congratulations go to Judy Anderson and Patrys Weideman and Rob Ribeiro (the big 50) on April 1, Lyn Curnow (2nd), Alex Skene (5th), Gareth Olivant (8th) and Pete Malan and Julie van Wyk (9th).  All news to Leila.
