Hibberdene Happenings: Annual ‘winter camp’ dates are set

These camps provide a holiday and a meaningful spiritual programme in a beautiful setting.

Teenagers, specifically those from grades 8 to 12, are reminded of the Winter Camp at Oribi Bible Camp near Oribi Gorge scheduled for July 4 to 7.

These camps provide a holiday, good food, entertainment, fun-filled activities and a meaningful spiritual programme in a beautiful setting, supervised by experienced leaders.

Camps are organised by the Methodist Churches on the Lower South Coast and are open to all denominations.

The cost is very reasonable and the contact person in Hibberdene is Ken Walker.

Sincere condolences

Sadly Neville Lawrence died last week after suffering heart problems for some time. He will be sorely missed by his wife Cynthia, his children, family and friends.

Flood aftermath

News is scarce this week, with most people engaged in cleaning up damage caused by recent floods. Mopping up operations continue unabated after Easter’s devastating rains and will continue for a long time to come.

New signs of damage become visible the further one investigates and begs the question of who is going to foot the bill for repairs, and indeed, who is going to undertake the repairs?

Fortunately rain has been scarce since the deluge, enabling most to go ahead with their repairs.

New convenor

The Methodist Church’s men’s breakfast held last Saturday went off well, with several important matters being discussed during the meeting.

It was decided that the format remains much the same and Louis Nortjé, convenor of the breakfasts for many years, stepped down and was warmly thanked for performing his duties so admirably.

Doug McLeod-Henderson will take his place for the coming year. The next gathering is scheduled for Saturday, June 1.

Good causes

Remember that the church’s ‘Knits and Natters’ group welcomes donations of wool. Members do a wonderful job of knitting and crocheting blankets for the needy and every scrap of wool is welcome.

Please continue to collect used clothing and shoes – several organisations are assembling goods for ‘winter warmth’ as the colder weather approaches. Several people are in need and every little bit helps.

Likewise, bread sealers are always appreciated. These are recycled and put to good use and may be left at the clinic on any Wednesday morning.

Happy occasions

Joey and Rudi Kotze celebrate an anniversary on May 9, while birthday wishes go to Kim Christie and Karen Badenhorst (8th), Betty Mack, Riekie Bekker (9th), Veronica Davids, Henna Keyter, Evans Linda, Tinus Loubser, Ralph Lessing (10th), Margaret Taylor (11th), Di Preiss (12th) and Martie Altin and Judy Cockerill (14th).

Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with all things Hibberdene.
