Port Shepstone Regional Hospital welcomes new board chairman

Dinesh Pillay from Port Shepstone who takes up the three-year tenure after having served as deputy chairman, from 2015 to 2018.

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital management is proud to welcome its newly-appointed hospital board and board chairman.

The incoming chairman of the new board is Dinesh Pillay from Port Shepstone who takes up the three-year tenure after having served as deputy chairman, from 2015 to 2018. During this period, he had the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the dynamics and workings of the facility and intends to build upon the achievements of his predecessors.

Mr Pillay considers his election as a call to duty, one which he is prepared for and willing to undertake. “I am aware that the assignment is daunting, and I call upon my colleagues to join me in reflecting on the past, critically assessing the present, and looking forward to the future with greater hope and enthusiasm,” he said.

One of his main objectives is to build a strong communication link between the community and the hospital.

“The first step is to engage with various community leaders which include pastors, moolana’s, priests, NGO’s, councillors and private doctors and workshop them with regards to the hospital’s standard operating procedures (SoPs).

People need to understand how the hospital functions and how they should go about accessing the services on offer. The sharing of information is central to the functioning of the hospital and providing an effective and efficient service,” Mr Pillay said.

He encourages the community to report matters to the hospital PRO and also to provide suggestions and constructive criticism.

“Nobody is perfect and the system is evolving on a daily basis. Tell us where we can improve or where we are going wrong,” he explained.

Mr Pillay also encouraged the youth to become involved with the community and be part of the solution for a better community for all.

“Our youth need to be steered in the right direction and we as leaders in the community have the responsibility to ensure that we bring out the best in them. We also need to build a strong relationship with the media and business,” he noted.

Mr Pillay who has been involved in community work since he was in school believes that service to man is service to God.

“As chairman, I will ensure that all business is discussed in line with the agenda, that everyone’s views are heard and discussed, clear decisions are reached and accepted and that follow-ups are made to ensure agreed actions are carried out in line with board decisions,” he said

Mr Pillay is currently employed at the Department of Education and based in Ugu District. He is also chairman at Child Welfare South Africa, Port Shepstone and the M Squared Community Association and serves on various other organisations.
