Go ‘wild’ for a good cause

The incredible Miss South Africa 2019, Zozibini Tunzi, will be a guest speaker.

Excitement is building ahead of the third annual Wild Coast Sun Indwangu Arts and Fashion Fair.

This year’s red carpet event is back with a bang and promises to bring fashion, glamour and music (and a dash of ‘arts’) to the fore on October 25 and 26.

Presented by the Wild Coast Sun as part of its women empowerment initiative, the show allows local creatives to make their mark in the world of fashion by showcasing their work alongside the best in the industry.

The event also offers a great platform for young, upcoming designers, artists, and businesses within the clothing textile industry to promote their brands.

Not only is the fair about glamour and fashion, it’s also about raising funds to help young girls from poor backgrounds in Bizana and surrounding areas to ensure they never miss a day of school because they can’t afford sanitary towels.

Last year, the fair generated enough funds to provide more than 1 000 packs of sanitary pads to pupils at Ebenezer Junior Secondary School and Maqongwana Senior Secondary School.

This year, 60 percent of the funds raised will be used to distribute sanitary towels and personal hygiene products to enable schoolgirls to continue attending school during menstruation, and to restore their dignity.

Guest speaker, the incredible Miss South Africa 2019, Zozibini Tunzi, could not contain her excitement at being part of this event.

“I’m very happy to be associated with an initiative that dedicates itself to helping young girls who, without sanitary towels, would have to miss school,” she said.

There’s a twist this year – wine tasting and a touch of arts and crafts exhibition have been added to make the two-day event an unforgettable experience.

According to Wild Coast Sun’s PR and promotions coordinator, Mawande Genu the focus of this initiative remains on girls from poor homes who need assistance whilst also providing a platform for aspiring young artists, crafters, designers and entertainers.

“Our objective is to raise at least R100 000 with which to buy sanitary pads to benefit more than 33 000 schoolgirls.”

The arts and crafts exhibition with wine tasting takes place at the Mzamba Convention Centre inside the Wild Coast Sun from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, October 25 while the fashion show and after party take place at the mezzanine car park on Saturday, October 26 from 4pm to 6pm.

Tickets are R80 per person, per event.

Mothers who purchase one ticket can bring along one daughter under the age of 18 who will be allowed free access to the event.
