Margate Moves: It’s a country life for Southbroom
The town and some of its folk were featured in the March edition of Country Life as Town of the Month.
The scenic town of Southbroom is one of the many jewels on the South Coast.
It’s no secret that its properties are sought after, with many lining the golf course, or overlooking the ocean.

Even the ‘inland’ homes, without a sea or fairway view, can take on a rustic feel, tucked away in a corner of the leafy suburb,
The town and some of its folk were featured in the March edition of Country Life as Town of the Month.

These included golfing ‘icons’ like pro Derek James and multiple tournament champion Gavin Sole, who is also the club manager.
Tennis is popular in the town, with the club having done some revamps in the past few years, spearheaded by Rolf Gudegast and others.
The work of the town’s conservancy committee (Dawne Murray, Dave Hallé, Anne Skelton and Amanda Murray) among others, was focused on, as were some of the village’s numerous environmental treasures.

Southbroom’s very own historian and author, Libby Cochrane, was also highlighted, with her unique ‘Australian’ insight always greatly appreciated and valued.
Some of the town’s ‘celebs’, like the Legends band, came in for a mention, as did culinary class-act Dave Page.
Forgive me if I have left anyone out.
It’s definitely worth getting a copy if you are in any way connected to Southbroom.
It really is a super spread, flowing across a number of pages, beautifully written and laid out.
