Birthday bonanza for school pupils

A former pupil made the generous donation to celebrate his birthday.

Pupils from Enyanisweni Primary in KwaXolo were beyond ecstatic recently when a good Samaritan decided celebrate his birthday by gifting them new school shoes and uniforms.

Snethemba Nzimakwe (32) of KwaNzimakwe decided to share the little he has as he too was once less fortunate.

Mr Nzimakwe said when he was growing up in the rural village of Nkothaneni in KwaXolo, owning a pair of shoes was nothing but a dream.

“In the early years, I attended school barefoot as my parents could not afford to buy me shoes,” he said.

Like many others in similar circumstances, he braved the weather – from the cold and rain to the scorching heat of summer – barefoot in order to get an education.

“It was tough, but when you are determined you succeed all against all odds,” he said.

So this year, Mr Nzimakwe decided to get in touch with the principal of his former school to ask how he could assist.

Ten girls and 10 boys were selected to receive full, brand-new uniforms.

Mr Nzimakwe said he wanted to restore the dignity of those who could not afford this.

“I know how it feels to have nothing, I know how it feels being laughed at and most pupils tend to lose confidence and focus at school because of being mocked.”
