Octogenarians find love…while queuing for medication at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital

With a mischievous glint in her eye, June Dougall angled in on an unsuspecting Dave Barry and struck up a conversation.

About a year ago, one beautiful winter morning on the South Coast, June Dougall (81) set off for Port Shepstone Regional Hospital to collect her monthly medication. Like many others, she had to endure a long wait in the queue.

Only this time around, she didn’t mind so much as she had spotted a certain handsome, and very tall, gentleman. His name – Dave Barry (85), also there to collect his medication. With a mischievous glint in her eye, June angled in on an unsuspecting Dave and struck up a conversation.

Her initial impression was soon confirmed,  and she knew she had to take this further. No time for beating around the bush. “Do you want to go for coffee after this?” she asked, or perhaps demanded. Dave blinked a few times and then agreed without hesitation.

So, after the wait to have their scripts filled, they found a place to enjoy a cuppa. The rest, as they say, is history and they have been pretty much inseparable ever since.  Dave popped the question last month and they were married on Monday, June 8, which just happened to be June’s birthday.

They tied the knot in a small ceremony, attended by family and friends,  at their Hibberdene home, proving that true love has no age restrictions and can blossom in the most unlikely of places.
