The case against the 34 year old man who was charged with the rape and kidnapping of a Pietermaritburg woman was heard in the Pinetown Magistrates Court yesterday (August 20).

“The man was not in court as he was hospitalised,” said Natasha Kara, spokesman for the Director of Public Prosecutions KwaZulu-Natal office.

The man’s next court appearance is on August 27.

A man wanted in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a Pietermaritzburg woman was arrested in Shelly Beach last night (August 9).

“A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted at Shelly Beach where a 34-year-old man was arrested. He was found in a self-catering apartment,” said provincial police spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

“He will be charged and will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (August 11).”

The woman, aged 28, was allegedly kidnapped last Thursday (August 6) and rescued by police at a Durban lodge last Saturday afternoon (August 8).
