A beachgoer stumbled across three headless chickens on Southport beach on Tuesday morning this week. The walker described the discovery of the mutilated fowls as “disturbing”, adding that her dog had found one of the heads.
Carla Steenkamp, vice chairman of the Lower South Coast SPCA, said it was against the bylaws to slaughter an animal in a public place. “This is animal cruelty and we can certainly charge the person for ignoring the bylaws,” she added. Anyone finding such practises taking place in a public place is urged to report it to the SPCA’s emergency number at 083 2226355.
