Track Torque: Gasly great at Monza
The safety car came out and Lewis Hamilton failed to see the red lights and drove into a closed pit lane.
Pierre Gasly, in his Alphatauri Honda, drove the race of his life at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza to keep a very determined Carlos Sainz in his McLaren Renault at bay.
Gasly was the first French driver to win a Grand Prix since Olivier Panis won in Monaco in 1996.

Sainz and Gasly gave an excellent exhibition of top-class driving.
Gasley’s lead of more than five seconds was cut to just one second at the chequered flag.
Lance Stroll in the Racing Point was right behind and therefore also on the podium.
We really had three very happy drivers celebrating their achievements together at the end of the race.
All this action was precipitated when Charles LeClerc had a bad accident, fortunately walking away unscathed.
The safety car came out and Lewis Hamilton failed to see the red lights and drove into a closed pit lane.
This resulted in him incurring a drive through the pits with a 10 second penalty.
He then drove a blistering race from the back of the field to finish in seventh place.
Williams announced after the race that it had been sold by the family to a venture capital company which will be keeping the name and injecting much-needed capital.
Let us salute Sir Frank Williams and daughter Claire for all their efforts – it’s good to know the team’s legacy will continue.
Next week we will see another Italian race at the very interesting Mugello circuit, a track that is well known by the motorcycle men.
