Tailor-made buses donated to special needs schools

The KZN MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu, added that the department expected to donate an additional 20 tailor-made buses to special needs schools later in the year.

Fifteen modified school buses were presented to schools with special needs pupils by the Department of Basic Education recently.

The presentation took place at Schola Amoris School in Umzinto.

Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Reginah Mhaule congratulated the department on having inclusive schools in KZN and for recognising pupils with special needs.

“I’m glad that we are able to cater to our pupils with special needs and I ask people to stop looking down upon such pupils because anyone can suddenly go through a life changing event and end up in their position,” she said.

“The facilitation of specialised modes of transport such as these signals a significant step towards ensuring that people with disabilities are included and empowered to contribute meaningfully in their communities.”
