For the past few weeks the challenge has been trending internationally, with people dancing to the hit song ‘Jerusalema’ by Master KG and Nomcebo.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor Cynthia Mqwebu said the aim of Tuesday’s dance was both to boost the officers’ morale during this difficult time and to get them moving in a fun way.

“This will remind our officers that although we might be following social distancing protocols, we are closer than we have ever been, and that we are also fortunate to be alive.”

She encouraged others to take up the challenge, pointing out that it can take place in line with the Covid-19 safety protocols of social distancing and the wearing of masks.

“Although the number of infections in the Ugu district has declined, people are still encouraged to adhere to all Covid-19 rules and regulations.”
