Second abandoned baby found in less than 48 hours on KZN South Coast

A second discovery of an abandoned dead newborn has shocked the South Coast community.

Street children discovered a newborn child in a bin packet on Dennis Shepstone Street in Port Sheptone earlier today.

According to Lazer 911 Security’s WhatsApp and Facebook groups, the security company said it received a panic call from a nearby shop, and when its officers responded, they were taken to where the newborn was in a bin packet.

According to Lazer 911, it seems the infant was abandoned over night and had died.

The matter was handed over to police.

This is the second incident involving abandoned newborns babies on the South Coast.

A newborn was found dead in a black bin bag in Margate yesterday (Saturday).

Official response from Saps is still awaited.

TAKE NOTE – THERE ARE OPTIONS

The KZN South Coast Hot Spots Turning Point baby saver box, spearheaded by Ciska van Zyl, was recently launched on the South Coast.

It’s situated at Port Shepstone Baptist Church and offers an option for a mother who would otherwise abandon a newborn child.

Once a newborn is placed in the box, it locks and sends an alarm to a dedicated responder (including a Lazer 911 guard) who will remove the child within five minutes and hand it over to a place of safety.

Pastor Ryan Smulders said it was not intended to promote mothers to abandon their babies, but instead to save them.
