He was declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be entered in the National Register for Sex Offenders.

Zamo Gumbi (31) of Mnafu area in Hibberdene was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the rape of a child which occurred in 2017.

He was declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be entered in the National Register for Sex Offenders.

“What was outstanding about this case is that despite the lack of DNA evidence, the court was still able to convict him,” said police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge of Port Shepstone Saps.

The investigating officer was Sergeant Beautus Cele of the Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
