MEC launches crime fighting plan

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Bheki Ntuli launched bold measures in Umzumbe on Tuesday this week aimed at fighting crime ahead of the festive season
The MEC also participated in a multi-disciplinary law enforcement roadblock at Umtentweni.
The multi-pronged crime fighting programme is aimed at reducing major crimes in the province. The key areas of focus are gender-based violence and other contact crimes.
“Today is a demonstration of strength and commitment by our government to protect its people. All our enforcement agencies are here and this is the approach we are going to use from now going into the festive period. We want to build a safe province and it is possible if we all work together,” said MEC Ntuli.
He added that “all resources will be unleashed – capital, personnel and equipment” in the fight against crime.
“Our people must feel safe in their communities. Our priority will be the crime hotspots and those stations are receiving maximum attention.”
The launch marked the rollout of the November Safety Month campaign which seeks to galvanise all sectors of society to actively participate in the fight against crime and social ills.
MEC Ntuli also announced key interventions aimed at tackling crime hotspots, following the resolutions of the recent Provincial Executive Council which was convened to deal with the crime situation in the province.
