Man caught with illegal firearm
He appeared in the Phungashe Magistrate's Court and the matter has been postponed for further investigation.
A man (37) was arrested on Tuesday this week by St Faiths police at Eluphepheni area after pointing a firearm at another man during an argument.
Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said a 9mm Taurus pistol with 12 rounds was confiscated and it was found that the license had expired in 2018. He was charged with common assault and pointing a firearm.
He appeared in the Phungashe Magistrate’s Court and the matter has been postponed for further investigation.
Police urge the public to take advantage of the current firearm amnesty period which will end on January 31, to hand in unwanted and illegal firearms and to also renew their licences.
