Smiles and songs as title deeds handed over in Ugu District
Beneficiaries were from Masinenge and Louisiana Housing Projects under Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality.
Singing, dancing and much ululating were very much evident as senior citizens celebrated receiving title deeds at an event held at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on September 11.
Some 630 title deeds were handed over to senior citizens by the Deputy Minister for Human Settlements, Tandi Mahambehlala, and MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma. Some of these deeds were handed over via a door-to-door visit.
These two officials were accompanied by the Ugu District mayor, Sikhumbuzo Mqadi and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor, Zodwa Mzindle.
The senior citizens, beneficiaries of the Masinenge and Louisiana housing projects under RNM, experienced the dignity, security and peace of mind that come with home ownership.
The department said the handover formed part of its ongoing effort to accelerate registration and issuing of title deeds to the beneficiaries of fully subsidized housing programmes.
“As part of the campaign, residents are receiving legal ownership of their homes, securing their future and creating a lasting legacy for generations to come. A title deed ensures security of tenure, unlocks household asset value and confirms legal ownership of a home, thus bringing peace of mind to families and future generations.”
