Norinco pistol among firearms recovered
A man (35) was arrested and the Saps searched the vehicle.
Two firearms – a 9mm Norinco pistol with seven rounds of ammunition and a Luger with three rounds of ammunition – were among a stash of firearms recovered by Harding Saps on Tuesday this week.
Harding Saps utilised intelligence and went to KwaJali where they stopped a silver bakkie with Durban registration plates.
It was quickly established that the vehicle had been stolen in Sydenham, Durban last month.
A man (35) was arrested and the Saps searched the vehicle.
He was later charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said a substantial amount of ammunition for various firearms such as rifles, parabellum, revolvers and pistols, was also found in the vehicle.
The team included Captain Wybrand Conradie, Detective Warrant Officer Nkosifikile Mbuthuma, Constable Romario Pillay and Shawn Grant from Prestige Security.
Ugu District Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele commended the Saps for the excellent recovery and arrest.
“Firearms off the street have a direct impact on violent crime. The public is requested to continue working with Saps to create safer communities,” she said.
