Let Jesus be the reason for the season
The Jewish nation had been anticipating the arrival of the Messiah for hundreds of years, diligently searching and studying the scriptures so that they can know when He would arrive.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea when Herod was king. After Jesus’ birth, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem.
They asked, “Where is the one who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star rising and have come to worship him.”
When King Herod and all Jerusalem heard about this, they became disturbed.
Herod called together all the chief priests and the experts in the scriptures and tried to find out from them where the Messiah was supposed to be born.
They told him: “In Bethlehem in Judea. The prophet wrote about this – Bethlehem in the land of Judah, you are by no means least among the leaders of Judah. A leader will come from you. He will shepherd my people Israel.”
Then Herod secretly called the wise men and found out from them exactly when the star had appeared.
And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying: “Go and search carefully for the child. When you have found him, report to me so that I may go and worship him too.”
Matthew 2:1-8 GW
The Jewish nation had been anticipating the arrival of the Messiah for hundreds of years, diligently searching and studying the scriptures so that they can know when He would arrive.
They were waiting for Him. They were expecting Him. They were keeping religious practices in preparation for Him.
Yet when He arrived they missed His arrival.
Even though the chief priests and the experts in the Scriptures saw these wise men in their city, they heard them say that the one whom they had been waiting for had been born, yet they themselves did not accompany these wise men to go in search of Jesus – their Messiah.
Many hear about Jesus and read about Him, but never search for Him in their hearts.
Many have missed the opportunity of having a personal relationship with Him because they don’t search for Him with their hearts. The wise men went in search of Him and they found Him.
Jeremiah 29:13 states “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”. May you find Christ in the fullness of His glory this Christmas.
