Old age home faces health risk

The home's refuse has not been collected for about six weeks.

Ntokozweni Village for the vulnerable, situated in Izingolweni, urgently need its waste to be collected by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

The home’s refuse has not been collected for about six weeks. Much of it consists of adult nappies used by elderly folk.

“The home has contacted the depot on numerous occasions and has been assured that the ‘truck will come today’ but it never does,” said a disgruntled resident.

With Covid-19 experiencing a second wave, combined with Ugu’s water problems, this is a recipe for disaster, felt other residents.

“There is a very real threat of a outbreak of cholera or dysentery.”

Response was sought from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality but none had been forthcoming at the time of going to print.
