New role in award-winning soap for South Coast actress
Fundi expressed how honoured she is to be apart of the multi-award winning TV show, although it is set to conclude in July.
The South Coast’s very own golden girl, Fundi Zwane joined the cast of Rhythm City and debuted on the hit South African soapie as Lu a lawyer, last night (April 28).
Lu is described as a strong character who is comfortable in her own skin.
Fundi expressed how honoured she is to be apart of the multi-award winning TV show, although it is set to conclude in July.
“I am honoured to be a part of this show. It boasts a myriad of very talented actors and actresses, some of whom have won awards. The show itself has won numerous awards, so it’s amazing to be a part of a credible bunch of actors, that has always been refreshing,” she said.
A former Port Shepstone High School learner, prior to joining the Rhythm City cast, Fundi played the role of Madonsela on the e.tv’s Imbewu: The Seed which recently won a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for most popular TV soap.
“It always feels great being a part of a winning team. Waking up at 5.30am to be on set is never easy, but when the show receives awards like that, it validates all the hard work that has gone into it for years,” she said.
Not only a respected actress but an established businesswoman too, she is the founding director of the Phezulu Phambili Collective, an ideation and content creation company.
“We’re living in a streaming market, and audiences from across the globe have responded so well to things like streaming. So with Phezulu Phambili finding creative ideas to create stories is always very refreshing and it’s something I’m really proud of,” she said.
In her myriad of projects, the Umtentweni superstar expressed her excitement and her plans to uplift the creative community, plans which include the shooting of a short film in the Ugu District.
“We are in the pre-production phase, and it focuses on developing the film and TV industry on the South Coast. We are so privileged and blessed to have so many locations to film. One thing I want to bring to the South Coast is to say to international investors although we may be a small region, but are we ready for investments.”
The public is encouraged to look out for casting opportunities.
“Once we start the process, we’ll definitely be casting in and around Port Shepstone,” said Fundi.
