Human head found in Betania
Port Shepstone police confirmed the incident and said it was the head of a female.
The community of Betania has been left shaken after a human head was found outside a local kitchen at a taxi rank, on Monday morning this week.
The owner of the kitchen, Bongani Mdunjana said his wife was a little late in opening and only did so after 7am.
He said a driver came to buy food and noticed something strange just outside the container shop.
“The driver asked my wife if she had seen what was outside and they both investigated. To their shock, they saw a human head,” said Mr Mdunjana.
He said the head had decomposed and had started smelling.
He had to close his kitchen for the day because police were investigating the scene.
A community member said he saw the head and noticed that half of it had no flesh and therefore could not tell if it was a male or female.
Port Shepstone police confirmed the incident and said it was the head of a female.
Police spokesman, Captain Zenzele Mpinge said a case was opened and police are investigating.
“An inquest docket has been opened for investigation after remains of a human were found. The head was taken to Port Shepstone state mortuary where it will be processed for DNA testing.”
