Scissors-wielding intruder robs elderly couple

Members of Saps Southport searched the Sea Park area with no results.

An elderly couple was accosted in their Sea Park home by an unknown man yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at about 4pm.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the man. who was brandishing a pair of scissors, tied the couple up and took cellphones, cash and jewellery before fleeing on foot.

The couple managed to alert a neighbour who contacted a security company who immediately responded and assisted the couple.

Basil Lanka of Lazer 911 said the woman screamed for help and a neighbour nearby heard the noise and went to investigate.

“He then contacted the Lazer control room and reaction officers responded, untied the couple and SAPS was dispatched.

Members of SAPS Southport searched the area with no results.

SAPS Southport has opened a case of house robbery.

The public may contact the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Mark John at 039 6819900 with any information that will assist in the investigation.
