Look out for the Vasco da Gama yachts sailing past
The yachts are expected to pass Port Shepstone on their way to East London later this afternoon.
Keep your eyes on the horizon to catch the yachts taking part in the 50th Vasco da Gama race which started this morning (Monday).
The last time the ‘Vasco’ was sailed, was in 2018 to Port Elizabeth.
According to the Point Yacht Club‘s website; it was unfortunately due to Covid, the intention of sailing Maputo to Durban was stymied.
After considering alternatives, the race committee decided that this year the race will be from Durban to East London.
The Point Yacht Club hosted the start, while in East London the arriving boats and sailors are being hosted by the Buffalo River Yacht Club assisted by the East London YC.

Rocket – Herbie Karolius while on her way up from Cape Town has had to withdraw.
