Men arrested in tuck shop ‘shootout’

The stolen vehicle was recovered.

Police responded to a business robbery which occurred at a tuck shop in the Mazakhele area in Harding.

Two unknown men, one armed with a firearm, proceeded to rob the store of airtime, cash and cigarettes after tying up the shop owner. They fled in his vehicle.

Police spokesman Petros Mpinge said police gave chase and after some gunfire, tactically cornered the men at KwaMbotho area where they arrested two men aged 27 and 22.

The stolen vehicle was recovered. The men appeared in the Harding Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of attempted murder, carjacking and armed robbery.
