Impressive snake season for snake catcher Sarel
Once he bagged the reptile, Sarel left a happy family (and friends) behind.
Snake catcher Sarel van der Merwe has had a busy season.
Most recently, he helped a community in Mtwalume by removing a green mamba.
He had to leave his car next to the highway and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the homestead where the snake was hanging out in a nearby bush.
Once he bagged the reptile, Sarel left a happy family (and friends) behind.
With hibernation on the way, this season the snake catcher has caught five puff adders in the Trafalgar and Paddock areas.
Deadly venomous, the puff adder probably accounts for more deaths than any other snake in Africa. Wait for it… Sarel has safely caught about 60 green mambas and about 15 black mambas.
The black mamba is the second-longest venomous snake after the king cobra. They’re considered the world’s most deadliest snake – also fast, venomous and aggressive.
You have to give it to this man – he has nerves of steel and the courage of a thousand soldiers!
He is extremely grateful to the communities for saving his cellphone number and calling him when they have a snake lurking too close to home.
