Men handed life for rape of woman (69)

At the time of the rape, the woman was alone at home at Oshabeni in the Mehlomnyama policing area when two men entered the house.

Zithani Lushaba (45) and Jabula Cele (56) of Ntengela location in Mehlomnyama were sentenced in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on April 19, 2021 to life imprisonment for the rape of a pensioner, aged 69.

Sergeant Sifiso Gigaba of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Port Shepstone was the investigating officer in the case, which took place on October 6, 2018.

At the time of the rape, the woman was alone at home at Oshabeni in the Mehlomnyama policing area when two men entered the house. Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said their sole purpose was to rape the defenseless woman. “Both men raped her while choking her into submission. They left the house without taking any property,” he said.

Police quickly followed up on intelligence after the victim provided vital information about her attackers.

Two men were arrested shortly thereafter and remained in police custody throughout their trial.

“The investigating officer had strongly opposed bail,” added Cpt Mpinge.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele congratulated the investigating officer for his meticulous investigation and securing this outstanding conviction.
