Cops nab one robber, three escape – for now

Port Shepstone Crime Prevention members were quick to respond and members of the Saps K9 unit chased after the suspects, arresting a man (30) with some of the alleged stolen property.

A storeowner in Boboyi was held up by four men, two armed with firearms and another with a knife, on Thursday, June 3 at about 15:00. The group fired a shot into the air causing customers to flee.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the store owner was forced to lie on the floor while they took cash, airtime, a number of different pairs of shoes and cellphones. Port Shepstone Crime Prevention members were quick to respond and members of the Saps K9 unit chased after the suspects, arresting a man (30) with some of the alleged stolen property.

A gas pistol was found in his possession, as well as an airtime machine and 19 rounds of live ammunition.

He faces charges of business robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlawful ammunition and carrying a dangerous weapon (in terms of the Dangerous Weapons Act).
The other three other men fled.

A business robbery case has been opened for investigation. Police request anyone with information which will assist in the investigation to contact Port Shepstone Saps on 039 6881002/1003.
