Seven year sentence for attempted murderer
In December 2019, Margate police attended a complaint of house breaking at Mvutshini location.
Sibongiseni Blessing Nxumalo (31) was recently sentenced in the Port Shepstone Regional Court to seven years’ imprisonment for house breaking with intention to commit crime.
After several court appearances Nxumalo was found guilty and handed a one year imprisonment for house breaking with intention to commit crime, 18 months for sexual assault and five years for attempted murder.
In December 2019, Margate police attended a complaint of house breaking at Mvutshini location.
A woman (65) was asleep in her house when Nxumalo broke the window and entered into the house.
He then assaulted and tried to rape her.
After intensive investigation by Margate detectives Nxumalo was arrested and charged.
Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Nxumalo has been in police custody after the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Nwabisa Lunika successfully opposed bail.
Margate Station Commander, Brigadier William Slabbert welcomed the sentence imposed in the Women’s Month and congratulated the whole team who worked to ensure that the perpetrator is removed from society and that a vulnerable member of society received justice.
