Hobby club aims to raise funds for hospice

While recruiting locals, Carl heard about Khanya Hospice in Umkomaas and decided to form a partnership of sorts to benefit both the club and non-profitable organisation.

Carl Coetzee, founder of the Amanzimtoti Warhammer Club, is in the process of extending the club’s reach to mid-South Coast residents.

He founded the Warhammer Club last year because he did not have any knowledge of any existing clubs in the Amanzimtoti area.

The aim of Carl’s club is to bring people together to assemble and paint the Warhammer figurines based on different factions and use the completed figurines to play on a tabletop game similar to Dungeons and Dragons.

While recruiting locals, Carl heard about Khanya Hospice in Umkomaas and decided to form a partnership of sorts to benefit both the club and non-profitable organisation.

As many people know, hospice offers free palliative nursing care, therefore it is always in need of donations and community assistance to keep going.

Carl decided that he will use his club to help raise funds for hospice by hosting small fundraisers.

“For example, if we decide to host a tournament or play a game, we could donate the entry fee money brought in to hospice,” explained Carl.

“I am also looking at hosting some of our introductory meetings and presentations at the the Khanya Hospice house so when people come through, we can even have a little donation box at our meetings.”

Neil McDonald, CEO of Khanya Hospice, is excited to be working with Carl and mentioned that hospice is always in need of fundraising initiatives like this.

“Fundraising plays a huge role in our lives and allows us to help others,” said Neil.
“We are always looking for individuals and organisations to help us bring in money so we are truly grateful for this.”

Neil explained that hospice has charity shops, but the money generated from these isn’t the same since lockdown began and the foot count in town has evidently decreased.

Warhammer Club fundraisers will be publicised once dates are set. To find out more about the club, visit Amanzimtoti Warhammer Club on Facebook or contact Carl on 083 6290862.
