Andhra Sabha elects new executive committee
Reggie Kistamurthy was re-elected as chairperson and expressed his gratitude to all members for their support despite a challenging year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Port Shepstone and District Andhra Sabha (formally established in 1955) held its 66th annual general meeting at the Andhra Hall last Wednesday.
In compliance with Covid-19 lockdown regulations the attendance was limited to the membership only. For those members who were unable to attend due to restricted numbers, the AGM reports were made available electronically on the official Andhra Sabha social media group.
Reggie Kistamurthy was re-elected as chairperson and expressed his gratitude to all members for their support despite a challenging year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Other persons elected onto the executive committee are: Venu Soobramany and Saroj Reddy (vice-chairpersons), Logan Naidu (treasurer), Johnny Rajoo (PRO/assistant secretary), Krish Naidoo (secretary).
One of the most senior and respected members and stalwarts of the Andhra community, Gopal Reddy was elected as one of the trustees.
For 2021, the chairperson highlighted the renovation and repairs of the historic Andhra Temple as one of the major projects which has commenced. The organisation has requested benefactors, sponsors and donors to support with sponsorship and donations to complete the project.
At the AGM, a large working committee was elected but at its first meeting various sub-committees will be formed and members will be co-opted based on their expertise at its next council meeting at the Andhra Hall on Wednesday, September 8 at 19:00. All members are requested to attend.
