A Malangeni Post Office security guard was held-up while on duty last Friday evening.
Police reports indicate that while on guard, the man heard noises outside the post office and investigated.
He was confronted by two men armed with firearms.
“He was forcefully taken to a nearby sports field where three more accomplices of the criminals waited,” said Scottburgh SAPS spokesperson, Captain Adam Francis.
“His hands and feet were restrained and he was left in the care of one suspect while the others got inside the Post Office.”
Once the perpetrators left the scene, the guard was left alone and after a few hours was able to free himself.
It was then discovered that a safe was cut open and cash was taken. A laptop, decoders and cellphone was also taken during the robbery.
The case is being investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Steyn Moonsamy of Umzinto Detective Service.
