Huawei Watch GT 2: The impossible made possible

Technology and sport have always gone hand in hand, which is why for years, we have been looking at various gadgets that make it possible to monitor our physical activity with the aim of learning and optimising our performance. Not so long ago, there wasn't a single device that really gave us the feeling that it was designed for sports enthusiasts, and Huawei's Watch GT 2 has done just that.

That said, this is a powerful smartwatch which, depending on the mesh used, provides a more or less sporty look. It weighs 41g without a strap and has a circular shape cut by gemstone processing technology.

On the front enclosed by a 2mm border is a 1.39” AMOLED panel with 454 x 454-pixel resolution and optimal outdoor brightness display on what could be called the bezel are the faintly embossed numerals.

On the other hand, the 10.7 mm thick case is made of stainless steel, which gives the watch a luxurious finish in addition to greater strength. On the left side is a microphone, while on the right side there are two metal pins with a serrated contour.

As far as the internal part is concerned, the heart rate sensor is located in the centre of the device, and the charging pin connections at the ends are perfectly aligned with the wireless base. Full charging takes 1 hour and 23 minutes, and lasts approximately 8 days with the heart rate activated for 24-hour monitoring, using the GPS for 1 hour a day, and synchronising notifications, as well as TruSleep, Huawei’s advanced sleep monitoring application.

Considering that it is waterproof, it can withstand up to 5 ATM, i.e. the pressure of 50 m depth, which makes it perfect for those who want to go swimming. It has two built-in functions that automatically lock the touchscreen once started.

As mentioned at the beginning, the device’s mesh is interchangeable, making it much easier to change the look as you wish, varying between a silicone strap for a sportier style, or a pebble brown leather strap for a more casual and elegant outfit.

The most attractive and interesting innovation of the huawei watch gt 2 is the integrated Kirin A1, the same microprocessor found in Huawei’s FreeBuds 3 headset with intelligent sound cancellation, GPS geolocation system, Bluetooth 5.1, air pressure sensor, gyroscope, and magnetometer, plus a 2 GB internal memory. As for the operating system interface, if you want to change the cover of the device, simply press and hold the screen for 1” and you will have access to the area where you can change the cover. With a side swipe, you can access programmes or applications such as the summary of the day’s activity, the weather, control of the music player, and data collected by the heart rate sensor.

By swiping vertically from the bottom to the top, you can see the various notifications, and in the opposite case, the settings window, allowing you to adjust the screen’s active time, mute notifications, check the status of both the battery and the Bluetooth connection, and more.
