Tweni’s Michelle Nel, a popular waitress at a local establishment, died in a head-on collision with a truck on her 33rd birthday on December 11.
The fatal accident occurred outside the Astron Garage on the R102 in Umtentweni just after 23:00.
Her parents, Lappies and Leatitia Labuschagne are devastated by the unexpected death of their daughter.
“Our daughter was always ready to help, friendly and always had a smile on her face,” said her parents.
She leaves behind two children, Christelle Priebe (13) and Miguel Nel (8), and her brothers De Wet Dirksen and Christo Herbst.
Michelle and her family moved to the South Coast from the North West in 2010.
She was a waitress at Schooner’s Bar and Restaurant for more than eight years and was loved by all the locals.
Lee Barker, owner of Schooners, said funds were raised to help cover funeral costs and support the family.
“To lose you so suddenly is truly heart-breaking. Thank you for the years you gave us; your hard work and amazing relationships with our customers will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace,” he said.
