Unqualified audit outcome for Umuziwabantu

The mayor of Umuziwabantu Municipality, Siboniso Zungu, said there is still room for improvement.

Issues related to financial management and municipal performance need to be addressed at Umuziwabantu Local Municipality.

This was a sentiment shared by the mayor, Siboniso Zungu, after the municipality received an unqualified audit opinion from the office of the Auditor General last week.

Zungu said the audit opinion was a significant achievement after an intensive auditing process.

He said Umuziwabantu council members officially accepted the audit opinion during a council meeting held last week.

“The audit opinion was finalised as unqualified with matters, indicating that the municipality’s financial statements are accurate and reliable. There are still areas that require attention. The need to address municipal performance and financial management issues was emphasised in the report. An unqualified audit opinion is a notable accomplishment which demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to transparency and accountability,” he said.

He added that the municipality recognised that there is still room for improvement, which requires stringent measures to be put in place.
