Police recently arrested five men in connection with cases of business robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition which they allegedly committed on January 5.
The men, aged between 18 and 36, are believed to have stormed into a business premises in the KwaCele area, Amandawe and stabbed two shop owners with a knife. They ransacked the business before fleeing in a getaway vehicle.
“An intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Umzinto K9 Unit, Provincial Serious and Violent Crime’s Unit, as well other law enforcement agencies led to the interception of the getaway vehicle,” explained Saps spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
“During the arrest, the men were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, a blood-stained knife and suspected stolen goods.”
They appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on January 8 and were remanded back into custody. They are expected to return to the dock, this week, for a formal bail application.
