Police probe young siblings deaths

It is alleged that on Monday last week, the children complained of stomach cramps and later started vomiting.

Investigations are continuing into the deaths of two siblings, aged two and six, who died after complaining of stomach cramps at Cabhane location near Hibberdene last week.

Now, post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact cause of their deaths.

It is alleged that on Monday last week, the children complained of stomach cramps and later started vomiting.

It was also reported that the children went to bed without having supper as they felt unwell. It is believed when the mother tried to wake them up the next morning, she noticed that her son (2) was unresponsive. She alerted a neighbour, who checked on him and said that he had died.

The mother then checked on her daughter (6) and noticed that she had some frothing on her mouth and nose. Paramedics were called, and both children were certified dead on the scene.

According to reports, the mother said she does not know what happened to her children because she also felt unwell and was taken to a clinic by ambulance.

Port Shepstone Saps said the children’s bodies were taken to Port Shepstone Government Mortuary, where the post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
