Rapist jailed for 20 years

Police encourage victims of sexual assault or rape to speak up against perpetrators.

Rapist Thulile Lucky Cele (39) of Mehlomnyama was recently handed a 20 year sentence by the Port Shepstone Regional Court.

He forcefully threatened and intimidated his victim and raped her several times during August 2021.

The victim was encouraged by her grandmother to report the matter to police, which she did.

Shortly after that, Cele was arrested and was detained throughout his trial.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Sifiso Gigaba of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit Port Shepstone.

Cele was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Police encourage victims of sexual assault or rape to speak up against perpetrators, thus stopping further innocent members of society from becoming victims of such crimes.
