Hijackers’ new jamming device fails them

The stolen vehicle was tracked to Harding.

Brazen hijackers were outwitted by Airtrack X-Treme Security and Saps in a recent theft case.

The Airtrack team responded after a Toyota Quantum was reported stolen from the Durban area on March 11.

The vehicle was travelling at high speed.

Hendrik Ludick of Airtrack said the recovery team tracked the vehicle to a residence in Harding.

Four suspects fled from the residence.

“On investigation, it was discovered that the suspects used a Suzuki Dzire with dashboard emergency lights during the theft and escorted the stolen vehicle,” said Ludick.

He explained that the suspects’ vehicle was also fitted with a signal jamming device.

“These devices are used to jam or block the tracking unit in the stolen vehicle,” he said.

Despite their efforts, luckily, a new anti-jamming device was updated.

Members of Saps Harding responded to a request for assistance.

Ludick thanked Ugu JOC, Highway Patrol, Vehicle Crime Unit and members of Harding Saps for their assistance.

One person was arrested. Saps also confiscated the vehicles and jamming devices.
