Man turns gun on himself after murdering two women in Umzinto

His girlfriend and her sister were killed, and another a female neighbour was shot at but survived.

The mid-South Coast community has been left shaken after two women were shot dead in Umzinto yesterday (March 30).

Reports indicate that a man shot and killed his girlfriend and her sister after a domestic dispute at a location (yet to be confirmed by Saps) in the Umzinto area.

Another woman believed to be their neighbour heard the gunshots and ran over to assist.

When she confronted the man, she was shot at but was able to flee the scene and received medical attention.

The man then turned the firearm on himself.

The KZN Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, was informed of the incident and will visit the family of the victims today.

His visit is aimed at offering condolences to the bereaved family, engaging with law enforcement authorities and reinforcing the Provincial Government’s commitment to tackling gender-based violence through justice, support for victims and preventive measures.

An official police report on the case is awaited.
