Murderer sentenced to 30 years

Nhlanhla Armstrong Cele (26), nicknamed 'Spinash', was found guilty in two separate cases.

A violent criminal was sentenced to 30 years behind bars at the Port Shepstone Regional Court on Tuesday last week.

Nhlanhla Armstrong Cele (26), nicknamed ‘Spinash’, was found guilty in two separate cases.

He stabbed a man (22) multiple times at Nyangiwini area on August 27, 2022.

The victim and his friend allowed Cele to have a beer with them and then went home.

Cele followed one of the men, stabbed him and fled.

A case of assault grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened at Saps Hibberdene for investigation.

In the second case, Cele stabbed a man (28) and then fatally shot him on September 24.

A case of murder and attempted murder was opened and investigated by Detective Sergeant Mthoko Gumede of Saps Msinsini.

After many court appearances and irrefutable evidence, Cele was found guilty.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder, five years for assault GBH and 15 years for murder.

The sentences will not run concurrently, and Cele will serve a sentence of 30 years.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, is pleased with the sentence and has expressed confidence in her detectives and their commanders in ensuring that justice is obtained for the families.
