United efforts for a safer Marburg
A weekly flea market will be held at the Marburg Community Police Forum Centre every Saturday, from August 2 .
Over the years, the Marburg Community Policing Forum (MCPF), comprised of a dedicated group of residents have worked closely with the community to foster a secure environment for all.
An operation was conducted in partnership with Saps, security companies, MCPF members, Merlewood and Mkholombe CPF members last Saturday. The Marburg area was cleaned up, and members intervened to stop a physical altercation at a local tavern.
Chairperson, Fathima Moosa said: “These collaborative operations will continue periodically as we work to reduce the rising crime in the area. We are proud to announce that we successfully signed a lease agreement with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality for the old rehabilitation centre. This facility has now been officially renamed the Marburg CPF Community Centre, and it will be dedicated to uplifting the community,” she said.
Ward 17 councillor Ajith Rajaram will be available at the centre from time-to-time to assist residents with service delivery matters. Additional updates on services will be communicated via the MCPF WhatsApp groups.
The biggest challenge at the centre is the installation of electricity and the associated costs. The forum appeals to businesses and the community who wish to contribute towards it to do so, as it is a vital initiative for Marburg business and residents.
The community hall is now available for hire at a nominal fee. Plans are underway to launch a weekly flea market every Saturday, from August 2.
The forum thanks all its sponsors who have helped rebuild the centre and turned its vision into a reality for Marburg. For general inquiries, complaints and further information, call Fathima on 082 4619541.
