Three men arrested after tavern robbery spree in Port Shepstone
CCTV footage leads to arrests in joint Mi7 and Saps operation.
In the past three months at least one group of young men have allegedly been targeting the area around a Port Shepstone tavern, allegedly robbing patrons and pedestrians of valuables such as cellphones, bank cards and cash.
It is believed patrons would be approached by the group as they exited the tavern. Other times, passers-by would be targeted. The initial interaction would be friendly, but individuals would then be cornered and robbed of their belongings.
The victims were never able to provide accurate descriptions of the suspects.
Last Friday, Mi7 and Port Shepstone Saps teams had a breakthrough.
They obtained CCTV footage of several incidents which took place outside the tavern, where the same modus operandi was used.
The suspects could be clearly seen.
In a joint operation last Saturday, starting at 08:00 and ending at midnight, Mi7 teamed up with Port Shepstone police to stake out the area.
As the operation progressed, three men were arrested. They were found in possession of cellphones, bank cards and sim cards (believed to be from stolen cellphones already sold).
Further investigations are continuing to find other members of the group. All role-players involved in the arrests were applauded.
