Armed gang storms home in Gamalakhe

The getaway vehicle was found abandoned.

An evening in Gamalakhe was shattered by a brazen house robbery that has now sparked a wider investigation by police.

A case of house robbery has been opened at Saps Gamalakhe after four men allegedly forced their way into a home on Somtyele Road on March 20, robbing the occupants of their cellphones.

It is alleged that some of the intruders were armed with firearms. The group then fled the scene in a white Suzuki.

The breakthrough came in the early hours of March 21 when members of Saps Port Shepstone Public Order Police were conducting routine patrols in the Nyandezulu area.

Officers spotted the Suzuki abandoned and immediately moved in. Sergeant Siyabulelea Qosha and his team approached the vehicle tactically, maintaining observation in case the suspects returned to retrieve it.

Police then called in forensic teams to process the scene for fingerprints, hoping to link the suspects to other housebreaking and burglary cases reported in and around Gamalakhe.

Investigations are ongoing.
